SENSORWORX

Building a 100% U.S.-based lighting controls company’s
first ever app.

SENSORWORX is a new brand of lighting controls that redefines the occupancy sensor category. At the core of this claim is the incorporation of key innovations in three areas: Technology, Convenience, and Manufacturing Quality.

The Opportunity

SENSORWORX’s products are proudly designed, produced, and sold in Connecticut. They pride themselves on simple to install and use commercial lighting control products but required more a more advanced configuration method for their newest systems—one that offered an enhanced user experience beyond that of its traditional push-button programming methods.

So they reached out to KRUTSCH and asked for help bringing their mobile app vision to life.

The Goal

SENSORWORX wanted this app to reflect their shining reputation of high quality products. So we prioritized intuitive UI features and streamlined design elements that help users easily navigate every screen.

We’re also well-versed in designing for connected devices and IoT apps. So we kept evolving chip and wireless tech in mind as we worked on both design and development efforts.

The Design Focus

Easy to use and impactful design were our two priorities. This app needed to work and impress.

For the design, we focused on intuitive workflows and easy to read UI elements to create a user experience that allowed the end user to easily navigate the lighting sensor installation process.

The Development Focus

Our devs worked closely with client teams to simultaneously build the front and back ends to meet project timing goals.

Getting To Work

Our process started with several workshop sessions to give us a full understanding of client needs and wants, product details, and how scalable this new app should be to ensure longevity.

We focused on the needs of end users. Building managers, tenants and workers who need an easier time of installing and using lighting control systems.

Once we had our more specific goals laid out, we moved into workflows for the full range of use cases.

Workflows led to wireframes and the visual design phases, including creating a visual language that incorporated and built on SENSORWORX’s existing branding.

After low-fi wireframes, we kept iterating and moved into hi-fidelity screens in Adobe XD. We collaborated at every step with SENSORWORX, and their constant feedback was key to the end result working as well as possible.

The final SENSORWORX app delivered. Tap gestures, simple UI components and intuitive features combine to make it incredibly easier for users to setup, customize and maintain their lighting control system.
