Affordable, guided legal help for California Domestic Violence Restraining Order (DVRO) cases.
KRUTSCH partnered with UDIL to create a custom platform that supports people navigating family court without an attorney. Collaborative discovery, thoughtful UX, and low-code tools helped bring their mission to life.
The Opportunity
The client needed to launch a fast proof of concept for DIY legal services, and the market lacked a smooth, reliable platform that could integrate multiple services to help users navigate complex legal processes end-to-end.
What began as a simple proof of concept evolved into a fully custom platform designed to feel effortless for users.
What We Did
How We Did It
Low-code by Design
We thoughtfully combined best-in-class tools to deliver a streamlined UX that hides complexity behind the scenes:
Squarespace - CMS and membership
Docassemble - document automation and interviews
Firebase + Firestore - auth and session management
NextJS (React) - custom dashboard
Google Cloud Platform - VMs, storage, cloud functions
Typeform - guided intake quizzes
Stripe - payments
Users take a guided Typeform quiz, which maps to the right legal service package. Payment flows through Stripe, where a webhook updates the user’s Firebase record, applies privileges to their DA account, and redirects them back to the dashboard.
Guiding Users to the Right Package
The Result
By leveraging a popular CMS and augmenting it with cloud-native services and custom engineering, we empowered U Do It Legal to deliver a simple, guided path through what are typically complex legal issues, and ensure extensibility for future growth and product refinement.
In addition, the custom platform supports UDIL’s broader mission of affordable access to legal help by offering free resources like family law videos, legal term glossaries, and written guide. This gives more Californians, especially those with limited financial resources, the support to navigate the DVRO process with greater clarity.
“KRUTSCH is a professional, knowledgeable partner who prioritizes user experience and consistently delivers high-quality work. In addition, I’ve greatly appreciated that they lead a communicative and responsive design and development process.”
